Cement

Cement is the binder that holds concrete and mortar together. Different types suit different work: general structural concrete, masonry mortar, and applications where a particular strength or setting behaviour is needed. Type is what matters more than brand.

Specification

Sizes and variants

Portland cement

The general-purpose structural cement, for concrete and most construction work.

Standard and extra strength grades

Pozzolan cement

Blended cement that gains strength more slowly but produces less heat, useful in larger pours.

Standard grade

Masonry cement

Formulated for mortar and plaster rather than structural concrete.

Standard grade

Premium grades

Higher strength grades for demanding structural work.

Questions

About cement

What is the difference between Portland and pozzolan cement?

Portland is the standard structural cement. Pozzolan blends in a supplementary material, so it gains strength more slowly, generates less heat as it cures, and is often preferred in larger pours where heat build-up matters.

Can I use masonry cement for structural concrete?

No. Masonry cement is formulated for mortar and plaster, and it does not have the strength characteristics structural concrete needs. Use the type the design specifies.

How should cement be stored?

Off the ground, under cover, and away from damp. Cement absorbs moisture from the air and begins to harden in the bag, so old or badly stored stock will not perform as it should. Use it in the order it arrived.

Do you supply in bulk?

Yes, in bags, in bulk, and by the tonner. Tell us the volume and the site and we will advise what makes sense.
