About scaffolding and formwork
How many props does a slab need?
That comes from the formwork design, based on the slab thickness, the span, and the load during the pour. It is not something to judge by eye, since under-propping a wet slab is a serious risk.
What is a U-head jack for?
It sits at the top of a shoring post and cradles the bearer, letting the height be adjusted to set the formwork level. The base jack does the same at the bottom, on uneven ground.
What does swellable waterstop do?
It is placed in a construction joint and expands on contact with water, sealing the joint against leakage. It is used where a new pour meets an existing one and the joint has to stay watertight.
