About tile adhesive and grout
Can I fix tile with ordinary cement mortar?
It is still done, but proprietary tile adhesive bonds better, tolerates slight movement, and is far more reliable on walls and over screed. On large-format tile or anywhere damp, adhesive is the sensible choice.
What does skim coat do?
It fills minor imperfections and gives a smooth, even surface for paint to sit on. The finish of a painted wall depends far more on the preparation underneath than on the paint itself.
How long before I can grout new tiles?
Until the adhesive has cured, which depends on the product and conditions. Grouting too early disturbs the tiles and the joints can crack later. Follow the adhesive instructions.
