What is the difference between Type 2 and Type 4?
Section depth. A Type 4 section is deeper than a Type 2, which makes it stiffer and able to retain a greater height of soil. Which one a job needs comes from the geotechnical design, not from preference.
Can sheet piles be reused?
Often yes, when they are used for temporary works such as shoring and extracted afterwards. Whether a particular pile can be reused depends on the damage it took while being driven and pulled, and on how much section loss corrosion has caused.
How are sheet piles installed?
They are driven into the ground with an impact hammer or a vibratory hammer, each pile interlocking with the one before it to form a continuous wall. Ground conditions govern which method works and how deep the piles can be driven.
