Steel Deck
Steel deck is profiled sheet that spans between structural members to form a floor or roof platform. On a composite floor the concrete is poured directly onto it, and the deck acts both as permanent formwork and as reinforcement once the slab has cured.

Questions
About steel deck
What does composite mean here?
The deck and the concrete work together as one structural element. The profile keys into the slab so the steel takes the tension and the concrete the compression, which means less reinforcement and a lighter floor than a conventional slab.
Does steel deck replace reinforcement entirely?
Not always. The design decides how much additional reinforcement a slab needs on top of the decking. Follow the structural drawings rather than assuming the deck is sufficient on its own.
How far can it span?
That depends on the profile, the thickness, the slab depth, and whether temporary propping is used during the pour. The manufacturer span tables and the design govern it.
