About stainless pipe
When is stainless worth the extra cost?
Where corrosion would otherwise cause failure or contamination, and where replacing the pipe later would be disruptive or expensive. In food areas, marine environments, and exposed architectural work it is usually the cheaper answer over the life of the installation.
Is stainless completely rust-proof?
No. It resists corrosion far better than carbon steel, but it can still stain or pit in aggressive conditions, particularly with chlorides. It also picks up rust marks if it is cut or handled with tools used on carbon steel.
What is a nipple?
A short length of pipe threaded at both ends, used to connect two fittings. They are ordered by diameter and length, and having the right length avoids improvising a connection.
