About plain sheets
What is the difference between plain sheet and plate?
Thickness, mostly. Sheet is thin enough to be cut and formed with sheet metal tools; plate is thicker and is cut and welded as structural material. Sheet is measured in fractions of a millimetre, plate in whole millimetres.
When should I use stainless rather than galvanized?
Where the surface is exposed to moisture continually, where corrosion would be a problem, or where appearance matters. Galvanized relies on a zinc coating that can be damaged; stainless resists corrosion throughout the material.
Do you cut sheet to size?
Sheet is supplied in standard sizes. Tell us what you are making and we will advise which size gives the least offcut.
