Polypropylene Rope
Polypropylene rope is a synthetic rope that floats, resists rot, and does not absorb much water. It is lighter and easier to handle than wire rope, and unlike natural fibre it does not mildew, which is why it is standard for marine lines, general tie-down, and site work.

About polypropylene rope
Why is rope sometimes quoted by circumference?
Traditional rope sizing, particularly in marine use, measured the distance around the rope rather than across it. Both figures describe the same rope, so a size quoted in circumference is roughly three times the diameter figure. We quote both to avoid confusion.
Can polypropylene rope be used for lifting?
It is not a substitute for rated lifting gear. Synthetic rope loses strength with sunlight exposure, abrasion, and knots, and it is not supplied with the certification lifting work requires. Use rated slings and wire rope for lifting.
How does it compare with nylon?
Polypropylene floats and costs less. Nylon is stronger and stretches more, which absorbs shock loading, but it absorbs water and sinks. Which is right depends on whether flotation, strength, or stretch matters most for the job.
