Where it's used
Concrete Formwork
Forms for columns, beams, and slabs take a beating from wet concrete. Phenolic board strips clean and survives many pours; marine plywood is the budget option for a few uses. Coco lumber frames and braces the forms.
Ceilings and Partitions
Interior ceilings use 1/4in ordinary plywood or fiber cement board on metal furring. Eaves and wet areas need fiber cement or marine plywood so the board does not swell. We match board and thickness to the room.
Cabinets and Finish Carpentry
Built-in cabinets, shelving, and partitions use 3/4in plyboard or plywood, with good lumber for jambs, frames, and trim. Double-sided sheets give you a clean face on both sides.

Plywood Panels (4 x 8 ft standard sheet)
Ordinary plywood
1/4in (3.7mm), 1/2in (8mm), and 3/4in (16.5mm), double-sided, for interior use.
Marine plywood
1/4in, 1/2in, and 3/4in, water-resistant glue line, single or double sided, for wet and exterior areas.
Phenolic (film-faced) board
1/2in and 3/4in, coated faces for concrete formwork, reusable for many pours.
Boards and Panels
Fiber cement board
3.5mm, 4.5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, and 18mm, moisture and fire resistant, for ceilings, eaves, and partitions.
Lumber
Coco lumber (rough)
2x2, 2x3, 2x4, 4x4 in 8ft, 10ft, 12ft, for scaffolding, formwork, and temporary framing, subject to stock.

Kiln and air-dried finish lumber for jambs and trim, to order.

Common questions about plywood & lumber
What is the difference between ordinary and marine plywood?
Marine plywood uses a water-resistant glue line, so it survives moisture without the plies separating. Use marine for eaves, kitchens, baths, and anything that might get wet; ordinary plywood is fine for dry interior ceilings, partitions, and furniture.
What plywood thickness do I need?
The everyday picks: 1/4in for ceilings, 1/2in for partitions and cabinet backs, 3/4in for shelves, cabinets, and flooring underlay. Formwork runs 1/2in or 3/4in phenolic depending on the pour. Tell us the job and we will recommend the sheet.
What is coco lumber good for, and when do I need good lumber?
Coco lumber is cheap and strong enough for formwork, scaffolding, braces, and temporary structures, but it is not dimensionally stable for finish work. For door jambs, frames, and trim that will be seen and painted, use kiln or air-dried good lumber.
