Questions

About wire mesh and fencing

What is a gabion and where is it used?

A galvanized wire basket filled with stone on site. Stacked together, gabions form a retaining wall or bank protection that drains freely and flexes with ground movement rather than cracking like a rigid wall.

What is the difference between hog wire and cyclone wire?

Hog wire is a welded mesh with rectangular openings, rigid in panels or rolls. Cyclone wire is the diamond-pattern chain link, more flexible and the usual choice for perimeter fencing around a property.

Does fencing wire need to be galvanized?

Outdoors, almost always. Bare steel wire rusts quickly in a humid climate, and replacing a fence costs far more than the small difference for galvanized wire in the first place.
