Chain
Chain is used where a link is needed that resists abrasion, can be shortened easily, and stands up to rough handling better than rope. Different patterns suit different work: studlink for anchoring, short link for general lifting and lashing.

Each link carries a stud across its middle, which stops the link deforming under load and keeps the chain from tangling. Used for anchoring.

About chain
What is a studlink chain and why does it have the bar across each link?
The stud is a bar fitted across the middle of each link. It stops the link squeezing out of shape under heavy load and prevents the chain from kinking or tangling as it pays out. This is why it is standard for ship anchor chain.
What does chain grade mean?
The grade indicates the strength of the steel, so a higher grade carries more load at the same link diameter. Grade matters for any lifting application, because lifting chain must be of a rated grade with documentation. Never use unrated chain for lifting.
Can I use galvanized chain for lifting?
Only if it is a rated lifting chain supplied for that purpose. General-purpose galvanized chain is made for lashing and securing, not lifting, and has no load rating you can rely on. Ask us what the chain is rated for before using it overhead.
