About pe pipe and fittings
What does SDR mean?
Standard Dimension Ratio, the ratio of the pipe diameter to its wall thickness. A lower SDR means a thicker wall relative to diameter and a higher pressure rating. It is how PE pipe pressure class is stated.
Why use PE for buried lines?
It comes in long coils, so a run has very few joints, and joints are where buried pipe usually fails. It also flexes with ground movement rather than cracking, which matters over time.
How are PE pipes joined?
By compression fittings or by fusion, depending on the size and the application. Buried mains are commonly fused; smaller service lines often use compression fittings.
